PAPER HATS - by Lusi and Tayla

ON TUESDAY THE TUAKANA SYNDICATE HAD A TECHNOLOGY CHALLANGE. WE WERE MAKING HATS OUT OF NEWSPAPER, CELLOTAPE, SCISSORS AND SOME VIVIDS TO DECORATE THE HAT.

FIRST OFF WE WERE BUDDIED UP INTO PAIRS THEN WE BRAINSTORMED HOW WE WERE GOING TO MAKE AND DESIGN THE HAT.
THE HAT HAD TO COVER YOUR FACE, EARS AND NECK. IT ALSO HAD TO HAVE A FASTENER. IF YOUR HAT DID NOT HAVE ANY OF THOSE THINGS YOU WERE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE COMPETITION.
OUT OF YOUR BUDDIES ONE HAD TO MODEL THE HAT. THE MODELS FROM YOUR CLASS MODELLED THE HATS AND YOUR CLASS VOTED FOR 6 OR 5 HATS TO GO INTO THE SYNDICATE FINALS.
THE WHOLE SNYDICATE MET IN ALGERIA (THE HALL). THERE WERE 3 JUDGES MS HOLLY, MS JONES AND OUR PRINCIPAL MR TAYLOR SMITH. THEY CHOSE THREE WINNERS.
IN 1st PLACE WERE HARRISON AND CAMERON WITH AN UNBEATABLE CREATIVE HAT.
IN 2nd PLACE WERE DYLAN AND ERANA WITH AN OUTSTANDING UNIQUE HAT.
IN 3rd PLACE WITH A VERY SUN SMART IDEA WERE THOMAS, KATE AND FORD.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE CLASSES WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS CHALLENGE. IT WAS A FANTASTIC DAY!

Apple Mummies Part 2 - Jordyn and Sammie

Today we looked at our apple mummies. The one in the Epsom salts is surrounded by liquid which we think has come out of the apple. We tipped it out and weighed it. Two days ago it weighed 60 grams today it weighed 34 grams!!! It has lost nearly half of it's weight in less than two days. We cleaned it up, put it back in the cup and added fresh Epsom salts.

Room 1 Apple Mummies! Part 1- by Jordyn and Sammie

Rm1 Apple Mummies
26/07/12

Yesterday in Room 1 we made apple mummies. We have been learning about mummies.

We are making five apple mummies. We peeled and cored the apples.

We are trying to see which salt compound dries the apples the best.
Apple One is with normal salt.

Apple Two is with Epsom salt.

Apple Three is with baking soda.

Apple Four is a mix of normal salt, epsom salt and baking soda.

Apple Five was cored, peeled and left in a cup without any salt.

We are also trying to dry chicken. The chicken is in a container with normal salt.

First we peeled and cored the apples then we weighed them and put them into cups. We covered the apples with the right ingredients.

The salt should suck the juice out of the apples.

Maui and The Sun

During the last few weeks we have been retelling Maui and the Sun.
Our group did stop - motion but not just any stop motion, we did stick figure stop motion. We painted the back ground
and cut the moving things out of card board. For the stick figures we made them with black pipe cleaners.
We had to use a tripod to keep the camera still.
Then we downloaded the pictures onto the computer and put them into order. After that we made a voiceover and put it in time with the photos. Finally we made credits and put it all together. This is the final product. Hope you like it.
